About Honey OG

Honey OG has been circulating since the 1990s, first grown by a group at Honey Spot in Hollywood, California, and it collected cup wins on the strength of its potency. THC comes in at around 28%, which is high by any standard and explains why the strain has stayed in demand for three decades.

Genetically it is an even split —50% sativa, 50% indica, and the balance shows in the experience. The high comes on strong and does not fade into the background. It is memorable rather than subtle.

Flavour is where it earns repeat growers. Earthy base notes carry a clear citrus lift, and the two work together rather than competing, giving a smooth smoke that stays consistent from first bowl to last. Buds cure dense and heavy under good conditions.

Growing Honey OG Feminized Seeds

This is a photoperiod feminized line, so flowering begins when you decide it does. Under an 18/6 light schedule the plant will keep vegetating; drop it to 12/12 and it moves into bloom. Every seed is female, so there is no culling males out of the tent partway through.

The advantage of running Honey OG as a photoperiod rather than an auto is the return per plant. You choose how long to veg, and every extra week of vegetative growth becomes more bud sites when you flip. For a strain that carries as much weight as this one, that headroom is worth having.

The main discipline with Honey OG is restraint. It is easy to grow but it responds badly to being pushed, overwatering and overfeeding are the two mistakes that cost people the crop. Let the medium dry between waterings and keep your nutrient concentration conservative, especially through early bloom. The plant will tell you when it wants more.

It performs well indoors or outdoors. Outdoor growers should be aiming at an October harvest, so count backwards from there when planning the season.

What to Expect

Yields come in around 500 grams per plant under good conditions, indoors or out. With the right environment the plant produces an abundance of dense, tight nuggets rather than airy filler, so that weight is real weight.

Difficulty is low to moderate. There is nothing technically demanding about the plant itself, the challenge is the grower’s habit of doing too much. Hold back on water and feed and this one runs itself.
