The female weed plant is always the rave; this is because it’s the one that produces the marijuana buds which we all love. So, if you are unsure how to tell the female from the male, we shall guide you. There’s a lot to learn about the female weed plant. Let’s dive in and learn something new!

Strains of Cannabis Plants

Cannabis has four strains which include the following;

a) Indica

During the flowering phase, cannabis plants with an indica inclination produce dense, fat, hefty buds. As a result, these strains are frequently thought to provide users with a “body high” rather than a more cerebral high.

b) Sativa

Compared to indica strains, sativa strains typically yield more airy and well-formed buds. Cannabis users have a reputation for experiencing more cerebral, energizing, and “buzzy” highs from sativa strains.

c) Hybrid

Hybrid strains, which include sativa and indica, are typically thought to provide a more even high.

d) Hemp

Although hemp plants are related to the cannabis family, they differ from typical weed plants because they produce very little THC, the chemical that gives marijuana its high.

How to Identify a Female Cannabis Plant

Cannabis cultivators seek female marijuana plants mostly. This is because they contain the bud that comprises most weed products.

Female plants also contain a good amount of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the main psychoactive compound in cannabis; however, male plants contain only a small amount of THC.

If you are a marijuana farmer and want more female plants, you can feminize them. You can learn how to feminize marijuana seeds and do it yourself if you are not willing to buy feminized ones.

Cannabis is an annual flowering plant. This means they complete their life cycle from germination to seed production in a year.

The early female cannabis pre-flowers are ovate, pear-like, and have a long and slender pointed tips. That is the calyx from whose tips a pair of pistils extend.

Female cannabis plants start to show sex with small pre-flowers from about 4-6 weeks. By week six, you can tell the difference between female and male cannabis plants.

Female marijuana plants can sprout from photoperiodic, automatic, or feminized seeds. Pre-flowers in females look like a pair of white hairs from the round calyx.

Parts of the Cannabis Plants

Mostly, people only know about two parts of the cannabis plant. These parts are the buds/flowers and the iconic leaves, which are the most important parts of the plant.

However, the plant has other botanical elements. Let’s look at them briefly;

a) Seeds

You can get male or female cannabis seeds after a complete life cycle

Cannabis plants begin from seeds, and their life cycle ends once they produce mature seeds. So, these are at the beginning and end of the plant’s life cycle.

Cannabis plants grown directly from seeds are stronger, produce a higher yield, grow faster, and even have better quality plants than clones.

The seeds form in female plants; once pollinated, they take 45 days to fully mature.

b) Roots

The roots are essential to the cannabis plant as they nourish the plant and keep it stable. The upper part of the root system is known as the root clown, where tissue begins to form the stem.

Cannabis tap root system

Changes in the vascular system make these roots tougher, stronger, and larger. This is also a result of absorbing air and oxygen.

c) Stem

The stem connects the other plant parts with the roots. It also gives the plant structure and stability as it grows and becomes more elongated.

d) Nodes and Internodes

Nodes are where the branches extend from the stem and other branches, while internodes are the spaces you see between individual nodes.

Nodes and internodes of a cannabis plant

Indica-dominant plants have narrower nodes, while sativa-dominant ones have larger internodes.

e) Stipule

Stipules form at the nodes in pairs and look like tiny, thin leaves; you can often mistake them for pistils.

f) Branches

Branches work with the stem to form the whole structure of the cannabis plant. They are covered in leaves and form a canopy, and the plants will have more or less branching later, depending on their genetics.

g) Leaves

The most recognizable features of the cannabis plant are its distinctive serrated leaves. Their primary job is to store sugar and produce other plant food through photosynthesis.

The leaves of this plant are divided into finger-like lobes extending from the base of the leaf.

i) Sativa

Cannabis sativa leaves

In contrast to indica leaves, which are bigger, darker, fatter, and often have fewer blades, sativa leaves are lighter and thinner and tend to have more leaves or fingers. But, again, this is merely a genetic manifestation of the two strains.

ii) Fan Leaves

The largest section of the cannabis plant is often its fan leaves. In contrast to sugar leaves, they do not have as many trichomes or cannabinoids, or terpenes. Fan leaves, however, are a crucial component of any cannabis plant.

Cannabis fan leaves

These leaves indicate the plant’s health as diseases always show up first on them. The leaves also store water and other nutrients.

iii) Sugar Leaves

Sugar leaves grow from cannabis flowers and get their name from trichome glands. They contain a higher concentration of cannabinoids and terpenes.

Cannabis Sugar leaves

Their function is the same as that of other leaves. However, they are thinner, have fewer blades, and are shaped like a spear.

h) Pre-Sexual Structures

Pre-sexual structures, often known as “pre-flowers,” start forming as the cannabis plant ages and gets closer to flowering.

i) Flowers/Buds

Most people grow cannabis plants for their flowers or “buds,” which are the sections of the plant that contain the most cannabinoids. Their primary job is to gather pollen and make seeds.

Cannabis buds

The majority of growers wish to prevent this. The quality of the blossoms would be ruined by pollination, which would redirect the plants’ energy toward creating seeds.

j) Bracts

Bracts are tiny, modified leaves that resemble teardrops that, along with bracteoles, envelop and guard the seed pod. They appear just before blossoming and are found at the flower’s base.

bracts on a cannabis plant

The bracts transform into an early form of the ovary or a seed incubator once the female plant is pollinated. They safeguard the seeds while they develop, ripen, and eventually separate.

k) Calyx

Calyx cells on a female cannabis plant

A female marijuana plant has calyx cells, but it is not well-defined. Calyx cells are a section of the perianth, a layer of delicate tissue that partially covers the ovule.

l) Pistils and Stigmas

The female sex organs of the plant are stigmas and pistils. The stigmas are two hair-like structures that grow at the tip of the pistils, which are oval formations with only one ovule covered by bracteoles and bracts. The stigmas catch pollen during pollination.

m) Cola

 A cannabis cola

The full bloom on the main stalk, or “cola,” is the plant’s main bud. Cola is a collection of several floral shapes gathered together and is the plant’s biggest and heaviest flower of the cannabis plant.

n) Trichomes

Trichomes, which resemble tiny crystals and are little resin glands in the form of mushrooms, coat the buds and sugar leaves. Although the buds have most trichomes, the stems, branches, and leaves also have them.

both male and female cannabis plants have triochomes

Trichomes are present in both female and male cannabis plants. They create the plant’s phytochemicals, including flavonoids, terpenes, and cannabinoids.

Hermaphrodite Cannabis Plants

Hermaphrodite cannabis plants occasionally grow with others. Plants that are hermaphrodites develop both male and female reproductive parts.

Cannabis plants that have both sexes develop due to genetics. However, this is less common than when a plant is stressed. Some stressors leading to hermaphrodite plants include excess heat, root rot, and malnutrition.

hermaphrodite cannabis plant

True hermaphrodite and mixed-gender hermaphrodite marijuana plants are the two varieties. Cannabis plants that are true hermaphrodites produce male and female sex parts but on distinct parts of the plant.

Cannabis plants with mixed genders produce anthers, yellow sex organs that develop from female flowers. Anthers release pollen, which fertilizes adjacent flowers.

Hermaphrodite plants discharge pollen. So, if you want your female plants to stay seedless, you should rapidly remove the hermaphrodite plant from the vicinity. However, if you want to have both sexes, you can get the male and female marijuana seeds and plant them.

Using a hermaphrodite plant to pollinate your female plants is usually not a good idea, even if you want them to produce seeds. However, if you do, there’s a good chance you’ll get hermaphrodite seeds.

How to Differentiate Male and Female Plants

When the cannabis plant is around six weeks old, you can see the difference between male and female plants. Look at the nodes where the plant’s leaves, branches, and main stem meet to determine the sex of the marijuana plant.

male and female cannabis plants

Male weed plants will generate pollen sacs, which at first resemble little balls before expanding into larger clusters of oblong-shaped sacs. On the other hand, a female weed plant will generate pistils, which first resemble thin hairs before developing into more definite ovules and stigmas.

It is important to distinguish between female and male marijuana plants because only female plants produce flowers. However, male plants only produce pollen sacs, so they don’t produce any buds you can harvest for consumption.

Frequently Asked Questions on Female Weed Plants

1. Can you grow male and female marijuana plants together?

Male and female weed plants shouldn’t be grown together, even if they can technically coexist. If you want to harvest buds from your female cannabis plants, separate the male and female plants.

Male cannabis plants aren’t useless, though; they contribute significantly to a grower’s harvest but growing them separately allows the female ones to grow well and develop.

2. Is it possible to tell if a marijuana plant is male or female before it flowers?

The first and most noticeable indicator is the presence of both male and female buds on the same plant. The presence of anthers, which growers refer to as “bananas” or “nanners,” is the second indication. Finally, anthers emerge among buds, have a curved appearance, and are often yellow or lime-green.

What do weed seeds look like? Cannabis seeds are characterized by a whitish-brown color and have small black spots or stripes on their surfaces. You’ll see plenty of them as we go through the article. Also, we’ll even look at the inside of a weed seed for better understanding.

Cannabis seeds vary in size. Some can be as small as 0.5mm, while others are as big as 2mm. In addition, if you deal with different cannabis strains, you’ll notice that the appearance may vary from strain to strain.

Does Cannabis Seed Size Matter?

The truth is that the size of your cannabis seeds doesn’t affect the size of the plants they grow into. So, for example, you can easily get a huge plant from a small cannabis seed, just as you can get a small plant from a big cannabis seed.

Therefore, don’t worry too much if you find that your bag contains mostly small cannabis seeds. They will still produce wonderful plants as long as you grow them correctly. If you are brand new to the marijuana community, we have many guides on our blog section for useful tips on your cannabis-growing journey.

The good thing about dealing with cannabis seeds is that they are ready to grow once they successfully germinate. You’ll know the weed seed has germinated once the root breaks out of the protective outer shell.

When it comes to the sex or genetics of weed plants, it can be hard to tell just by looking at your seeds. In this article, we’ll dive into the world of weed seed appearance and give you all the information you need for a great weed-growing experience.

First, let’s dissect a weed seed and see what the inside looks like.

The Anatomy of A Marijuana Seed – A Look at the Inside

The Anatomy of A Marijuana Seed

Understanding the anatomy of a cannabis seed can help you become a better grower. The outside of the seed has an oval shape and is often whitish-brown in color. Some weed seeds have stripes on them; we’ll look at why in the next section.

You’ll notice that the weed seed also has a ridge that runs longitudinally. This is the part that opens up during the germination process. You’ll find that unfertilized and underdeveloped seeds have an off-white color and are often smaller than developed weed seeds.

Once you dissect the weed seed, you’ll see the radicle, cotyledons, and root cap. These parts form the plant embryo, which is similar to the typical plant seeds we learned about in school.

The cotyledons are crucial because they grow into the first leaves of your weed plant. The radicle is also important and will grow into the primary root.

The pericarp is what protects the embryo from external forces, while the root cap protects the tips of the weed plant as it grows.

Let’s now look at why some weed seeds have tiger stripes on them and what these stripes indicate.

What Do Stripes on Cannabis Seed Indicate?

stripes on a cannabis seed

When getting cannabis seeds to plant, you may notice that some of them have stripes on them. The tiger stripes on weed seeds often indicate that the seed is mature. Therefore, this is a good thing!

In fact, you should be glad when you get weed seeds with tiger striping because you can be sure that you’re getting value for your money. Immature seeds are often disappointing to get and can lower your zeal for growing cannabis.

Unfortunately, the tiger stripping doesn’t give you any other information about the weed plant species you’ll get.

Nonetheless, you can sometimes tell the species of the seeds based on their size. For example, Hemp, Ruderellis, and Sativa seeds are often smaller than Indica seeds.

Although you can’t know the size of the cannabis plant that will germinate based on the size of the marijuana seeds, you can tell the sex of the plant based on the types of seeds.

For example, if you want to get a flowering female plant, consider growing feminized marijuana seeds.

Types of Cannabis Seeds

What do weed seeds look like?

Weed seeds come in different forms. These include feminized seeds, auto-flowering seeds, and regular seeds.

Here are the different types of weed seeds.

A) Feminized Cannabis Seeds

Feminized Cannabis Seeds

Unfortunately, it’s difficult to distinguish between feminized weed seeds and auto-flowering seeds just by looking at them. Therefore, avoid placing these two seed types in the same place to ensure you don’t mix them up.

Feminized cannabis seeds have been engineered to produce female plants only. Therefore, if you want to cultivate smokable flowers, feminized seeds are what you need. Example are Jealousy Strain and White Truffle Strain.

One thing to note when dealing with feminized cannabis seeds is that you shouldn’t plant them near male plants to avoid pollination from happening.

If pollen from the male plants gets to the female plants, you’ll have female weed plants with seeds.

Although growing female cannabis seeds can be costly in terms of resources and Cannabis nutrients, you can be sure that you’ll be getting value for your money.

The reason is that female seeds often use nutrients to their full capacity to produce female cannabis flowers.

B) Auto-flowering Seeds

autoflowering cannabis seeds

Auto-flowering cannabis seeds are great for indoor growing and for growing in places where the growing season is short. Unlike their feminized counterparts, these cannabis seeds require less light and are much easier to grow.

Although you can’t tell them apart from feminized seeds by looking at them, you can tell them apart during the flowering stage.

Auto-flowering plants start and end the flowering phase based on their maturity. The amount of light they receive daily doesn’t affect the flowering process. Therefore, you don’t have to maintain a light schedule to initiate the flowering phase.

You’ll simply notice the first signs of flowering after 2 – 4 weeks of growing the plant.

In fact, if you are a beginner in the world of growing your own cannabis, we recommend you start with auto-flowering seeds. They are easier to maintain, and you’ll have your harvest ready within 8 weeks of sprouting.

Check out our article on harvesting marijuana for maximum yield for extra tips during harvesting.

C) Regular Seeds

Regular cannabis seeds can produce female, male, and hermaphrodite plants. The advantage of these seeds is that they are easier to find than the other two types above and are cheaper than feminized seeds.

Take Away

healthy cannabis seeds

Cannabis seeds have an oval shape and are whitish-brown in appearance. Healthy cannabis seeds are often dark and strong; breaking them is difficult.

Unfortunately, you can’t tell the sex of the cannabis plant you’ll get by looking at your seeds. You’ll have to wait till the flowering stage to find out.

For quality marijuana seeds, we recommend that you get your seeds from a renowned seed bank.

Another thing to watch out for regarding the appearance of weed seeds is their health. Mature weed seeds are often dark, whereas immature cannabis seeds have a whitish or greenish appearance.

Frequently Asked Questions About Cannabis Seeds

quality cannabis seed

1. How do you know if a marijuana seed is healthy?

The first step is buying seeds from a reputable marijuana seed company. This way, you can be sure that you’ll get healthy cannabis seeds that will produce great cannabis plants.

If you are new to growing your own cannabis plants, it can be hard to identify quality marijuana seeds. Nonetheless, there are some signs to watch out for. These include a white or pale green color in the appearance of the seed.

Healthy marijuana seeds from a good seed bank are dark and don’t break easily. These quality seeds will germinate easily and give you a good yield.

2. Can you tell the sex of the marijuana seeds from their appearance?

healthy plants

Unfortunately not. There’s no visible physical difference between female and male-producing marijuana seeds.

If you truly want to know the sex of the seed, it’s best to get cannabis seeds from a good seed bank where you’ll get this information.

If you already have the seeds with you, the next best thing is to wait until the flowering stage and see if it’s male or female.

3. Are larger marijuana seeds harder to germinate?

The size or weight of the marijuana seed alone doesn’t affect the germination process. However, some weed growers argue that the larger or heavier the seed, the more difficult it is to germinate

The truth is that the weed seed germination process is often influenced by factors outside the state of the seed. The one factor that can make weed seeds harder to germinate is age. Old cannabis seeds can be more difficult to germinate than their younger counterparts.

To further counter the argument that size and weight affect the germination process is that the outer shell of the cannabis seed is designed to be weakened by water. Therefore, the size or thickness of it should not inhibit the root from emerging.

Are you planning to order a batch of cannabis seeds for the next planting season? If your quest for seeds makes you wonder where to get them, you can go through this Growers Choice Seeds review to get an insight.

Once you understand how the company handles its seeds, you will confidently order your batch and plant them. No matter the type of seeds you want, you will likely get them from this company. This is because they have variety and always have something for everyone.

About Growers Choice

Growers Choice was started in 1996 while growing weed as a hobby. The company founders got help from a breeder who showed them how to blend strains and other tricks associated with marijuana seeds.

All about Growers Choice Seeds

With numerous experiments, they gained enough knowledge on growing and breeding. Then, with enthusiastic growers with professional horticulture backgrounds, the company continued making its strains, expanding even more. As a result, it is one of the fastest-growing seed companies in Europe.

You will get the up-and-coming strains as well as the legendary genes. Do you know what this means? The answer is obvious; you’ll have a diverse selection of cannabis seeds.

What Types of Seeds Can I Get from Growers Choice?

As already mentioned, Growers Choice has a wide selection of weed seeds you can choose from. Different buyers may not want the same type of seed, making it a perfect cannabis seed store for all, including the following;

a) Feminized Seeds

Feminized cannabis seeds are best for normal cannabis seeds. In this manner, you can avoid wasting time by planting cannabis seeds to identify male sprouts.

The Grower’s Choice Seed Company offers a wide variety of feminized seed options, ranging from recent trends to time-tested classics. They also offer feminized high CBD strains and feminized auto-flowering strains.

b) High CBD Medical Seeds

ACDC, Critical Mass, Blueberry, and other strains with enhanced CBD levels are among those offered for sale by Growers Choice Seeds.

High CBD seeds

They call their CBD seeds “medical cannabis seeds,” which gives you an idea of the therapeutic effects the high-quality plants would yield. As you know, there are different ways of using marijuana seeds for medicinal purposes. So, these high CBD seeds are important to most growers.

c) Auto-Flowering Seeds

Due to their modest size and speedy flowering characteristics, auto-flowering cannabis seeds are preferred by many gardeners for indoor growth. The Growers Choice Seeds company offers a large variety of auto-flowering seeds with the familiar genetics you adore.

This enables you to cultivate your preferred strains, such as Northern Lights, Cheese, Blueberry auto-flowering, Gorilla Glue auto-flowering, and Growers Choice Gorilla Glue auto-flowering.

Growers Choice Seed Quality

The quality of the seeds is one of the most crucial factors for anyone seeking cannabis seeds. Sadly, it is too common for suppliers to give their clients low-quality seeds these days.

Growers Choices Seeds generally appear much better than the industry average for seed quality. This is because all seeds sold by the company are 100% fresh, hand-picked, and subjected to the strictest level of inspection to guarantee they meet the standards set by the business.

germination-guarantee-Growers choice-seeds

For the company to be certain that the seeds given out will reach their high level of quality, these seeds are individually inspected and examined.

Furthermore, note that Growers Choice assures that all orders will achieve an extremely high percentage of 90% germination, or the company will deliver a free replacement pack of seeds to consumers without asking questions. In addition to being exceedingly generous, this offer reassures clients and is facilitated by a seed bank.

You should note that this is only valid for those who adhere to the extremely detailed growth guidelines that the business lays out for its clients in its special germination guide. Anyone who does not follow the germination guide instructions will not qualify for the free replacement offer.

Strain Selection

At any given time, Growers Choice has about 40 strains, at least five of which are high-CBD medical varieties. One of Growers Choice’s many auto-flowering strains will be the ideal choice for growers with less hands-on methods.

Growers Choice Seeds grow full spectrum cannabis plants

If you’re unfamiliar with the term “auto-flowering plants,” it simply implies that the plant will independently transition to the flowering stage. As a result, you won’t need to keep an eye on your plants attentively, and you’ll get a crop more quickly (sometimes even multiple harvests in a single season).

Since auto-flowering plants often only reach a few feet, they are also ideal for growers with limited space or who wish to be as covert as possible.

Shipping Returns and Payment Options

Shipping

Growers Choice Seeds’ shipping times are normally quite quick due to their many international distribution facilities. They deliver anywhere in the world. However, it is the customer’s responsibility to abide by local regulations.

Since free delivery is only available for transactions worth $500 or more, other customers must pay the flat charge of $9.95 for domestic shipping. Plus, their orders will come with tracking and should arrive in 7 to 10 days.

When buying cannabis seeds online, it’s always nice that you can mail your order to a P.O. Box and that domestic shipments won’t have to go through customs! Canadian consumers will pay a flat charge of $14.95 per order and can anticipate receiving their seeds within 7 to 14 days.

Shipping is $30 and takes between 7 and 25 business days to destinations including Australia, Europe, and others.

Orders shipped within the United States are normally sent in their original, airtight packaging, which is not always stealthy but is at least inconspicuous so that the firm name is not visible outside the package. Orders transported internationally will use additional stealth techniques at no additional cost.

Payments

Although Growers Choice Seeds allows several payment options, some are unmistakably favored. For instance, consumers who pay for their order by mail with a cashier’s or certified check will get a free 3-seed pack.

They find that payment option to be the simplest to handle. Therefore they want to encourage more people to utilize it.

On the other hand, there is a hefty 8.5% service charge for orders paid with Visa and Mastercard, which are still accepted. Other approved payment options include Zelle, ACH Electronic Checks (available only in the United States), Interac e-Transfer (available only in Canada), LiteCoin, BitCoin, and Ethereum. Personal checks and cash are not accepted. (https://hopeclinical.com)

Growers Choice Seeds Return Policy

Growers Choice Seeds’ return policy permits customers to send back some orders within 7 days of receiving the goods. The customer must get confirmation of the return from customer service to receive a refund.

They will also receive a unique mailing address only used for returns. This is an extremely crucial step because returns submitted without prior confirmation will not be refunded. Also, returns delivered to the incorrect address will not be accepted.

The client covers both the costs of returning the item to Growers Choice Seeds and the first shipping costs. If the returned goods are considered satisfactory, that is, in their original condition, the remaining sum will be reimbursed through the original form of payment.

Growers Choice Loyalty Program

Even better, you can enter monthly draws for up to $200 worth of free seeds if you subscribe to their email newsletter and receive 10% off your first buy.

Growers Choice Seeds offers consumers a loyalty program, unlike other seed providers. This is where buyers may accumulate points for purchases, create an account, etc., and convert those points into savings on the next orders.

This is an additional option to save money on their already low costs and can even get you some free seeds if you frequently purchase products from the company.

If you buy from them frequently, it’s a simple decision to join their loyalty program. You’ll end up saving money over time and get some free seeds.

Pros and Cons of Using Growers Choice Seeds

Why Should You Buy Marijuana Seeds Online from ILGM?

I recommend buying your cannabis seeds from ILGM for several reasons. Most importantly, the online seed bank has many types of feminized and auto-flowering seeds you can easily grow at home. Besides the extensive catalog of cannabis seeds, here are more reasons you can buy from ILGM.

a) Free Shipping

ILGM Shipping

One of the amplest reasons I love buying from ILGM seed bank is their free and fast shipping across all US states. On top of that, they also offer stealth shipping, meaning they do not reference your order as marijuana seeds on the packaging or receipts.

The only deal breaker I found with their shipping is my package took around a week to be delivered, though the website warns this can happen in unique circumstances. Still, I would have preferred to get my seeds earlier.

b) 100% Money-back Guarantee

Cannabis seeds can be quite expensive, depending on the strain you want to get. So, I always look for online seed banks that offer a 100% money-back guarantee if the seeds arrive damaged or fail to germinate.

So, I recommend buying your seeds from this popular seed bank as a reliable money-back guarantee backs all their offers.

c) Excellent customer service

ILGM customer service

While it is easy to find a company selling cannabis seeds online, not all provide the best customer service, and growing marijuana is a process that requires a lot of guidance. So, I recommend looking for a seed bank that offers free online growing resources such as ILGM.

The ILGM website features a Support Center where you can find marijuana growing guides, including videos and FAQs. If these do not provide full answers, you can contact their customer service through the online contact form or email and expect a reply within a day.

Unfortunately, you cannot reach customer support through their online phone number.

d) Payment methods

ILGM payment methods

When looking for a company selling high-quality seeds online, I also advise picking one with versatile payment methods so you can always order your seeds whenever you need them. Luckily, this is one area where ILGM excels, especially compared to other seed banks.

You can make your payments through:

  • Credit cards
  • Debit cards
  • Bitcoin
  • Check
  • Bank transfer
  • Cash

e) Discounts

ILGM discounts

ILGM offers attractive discounts when buying cannabis seeds and nutrients as a legitimate seed bank. For instance, they have a $5 discount on your online purchase, while you can also buy some seeds at great discounts.

Another discount I recommend redeeming is a 10% discount on your total order when you buy through Bitcoin. So, whenever you want to buy cannabis seeds in bulk, pay through Bitcoin, and you might save thousands of dollars.

f) Responsive website

ILGM website

The last thing you want is a slow-loading website when you want to navigate through different offers, as this can affect your buying process. Fortunately, ILGM has a website that loads fast and is easy to navigate from one category to the other. I particularly love how product images load fast so you can see what you are about to buy.

g) Account rewards

Considering how expensive some cannabis strains tend to be, I highly praise ILGM since you can open an account and earn cash rewards and free products that are not offered to the masses.

For instance, you can start earning VIP points when you buy products or refer someone. You can also win different vouchers for up to $100 when you buy products worth $200. However, you need to have a VIP account for these offers. Remember, you must be at least 21 years old to open an account or buy cannabis products.

Why You Should Avoid Buying from ILGM Seeds

Even though I recommend this online seed bank for all marijuana growers, there are a few reasons you might not find it the best option. These include:

  1. Some of their strains are more expensive than other seed banks.
  2. Delivery can take longer than you expect.
  3. They charge $25 to track your order, even though the shipping is free to all US states.
  4. They don’t ship outside America.

Just like in animals or other plants, cannabis has male and female varieties. You need to understand the male and female marijuana seeds to maintain a strong growing operation. Typically cannabis plants will either have females, males, or hermaphrodites, meaning a plant has two sexes.

What Are Female Cannabis Plants?

What Are Female Cannabis Plants?

A female cannabis plant is considered more valuable than a male cannabis plant. This is because only female cannabis plants produce buds. In addition, these plants also contain tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is the main psychoactive compound in cannabis.

Additionally, female plants’ production is far more potent than male plants. Therefore, even though the male cannabis plants can make concentrate products like hash, the female marijuana plant is preferred for this purpose.

What Are Male Cannabis Plants?

The male cannabis seeds produce pollen sacs used to pollinate female weed plants, causing the female flowers to produce seeds. However, the cannabis produced from the male plant is not usable since it does not contain any bud. Therefore, growers will tend to plant crops of female seeds if they want to cultivate marijuana into a sellable product.

Male cannabis plants are mainly used for breeding and provide 50% of the genetic material that the seeds inherit. Therefore, you will have stronger, high-quality produce with a strong male plant. Male cannabis plants also tend to have more phytocannabinoids on their leaves.

In addition, male cannabis plants are also used for making hemp fiber. The hemp material produced by the male plants is often softer than that of female marijuana plants, making it ideal for tablecloths, shirts, or bed sheets.

That said, it is inessential to produce and sell male marijuana plants since they have minimal psychoactive effects, meaning they will not provide much of a high when used. Most of the time, the male plant will crowd the female marijuana plants, which can affect the production levels.

Again the male plant can, in other instances, contaminate female plants by potentially fertilizing them. This is because when the female plant is fertilized, it will focus its energy on producing seeds rather than making the needful THC buds or flowers.

Hermaphrodite Cannabis seeds

What is a hermaphrodite cannabis plant?

Hermaphrodites are weed plants with both male and female flowers. Basically, these kinds of seeds will produce buds, and they will also pollinate them. Mostly weed plants will naturally become hermaphrodites. However, they can also be turned into hermaphrodites if the plant is not well cared for or is exposed to stress such as too much water, exposure to certain insects or pathogens, or if they are badly done transplants.

Hermaphrodite female seeds grow staminate flowers that have stamens instead of pistils. The male seeds are not as common because they are not allowed to grow to their point of ripening. However, it is important to note that both female and male seeds can turn to hermaphrodites. The Thai strains are more genetically inclined to turn into hermaphrodites.

Although the plant can fertilize the female strains, which in essence will mean great yield, hermaphrodites are not the best type of plants to grow. They can produce high-quality buds, but there is a high risk of pollinating the whole plant or the rest of your plants. So, as you get rid of the male plant, we advise you to eliminate them.

What’s the difference between male and female weed plants?

What's the difference between male and female weed plants?

Male and female plants look similar during the seedling and vegetative phases. Then, they begin to transition in the flowering phase, where you can easily tell the plant’s gender. During this time, females produce resinous buds loaded with cannabinoids, and males develop sacs filled with pollen.

The main between male and female cannabis seeds is that the female plants yield buds while the cannabis plants do not. Therefore, female cannabis plants will produce usable cannabis or potent high THC buds, and male plants do not.

In addition, male weed plants or seeds will grow vertically and, in most cases, do not have branches and many leaves as the female plants do. In most cases, the male plants will appear frail and unhealthy. You will easily identify these characteristics at the development stages of the plant.

Again the female weed seeds will start to flower. Then you will notice that the plant will develop lots of hair at the end of its ramifications. The female plant will also develop a V-shaped pistil. These characteristics are not mostly visible in the male plant.

How to Determine if a Cannabis Seed Is Male or Female

How do Determine if a Cannabis Seed Is Male or Female

Unfortunately, marijuana seeds cannot be sexed until they have germinated or grown. Therefore, it is simply impossible to tell a seed’s gender just by looking at it because cannabis seeds look identical.

As the marijuana plant develops to the flowering stage, it will clearly show signs of its gender. Most of the time, growers have a 50/50 chance of growing the female or male seeds. Below are some physical characteristics that help you differentiate the male and female marijuana plants.

Characteristics of Male Plants

  • They have thick and strong stalks
  • They have sparse or scanty leaves
  • They are taller than the female plants
  • They form pollen sacs with green and white flowers

Characteristics of Female Plants

  • The female plants have slender or thin stalks
  • They have more leaves than the male plants
  • Female plants have translucent hairs in white or orange
  • The plant has a V-shaped pistil with a protective layer
  • Usually shorter than male plants

That said, there is no guarantee of producing female plants if you pull marijuana seeds from a bud and plant them. This is where feminizing cannabis seeds come in handy since it allows seed producers and growers to create only female seeds.

While it is impossible to determine the sex of the weed seed, feminizing the cannabis plant is quite popular. Feminized weed seeds are marijuana seeds that are selectively bred and guaranteed to produce only female plants. Basically, the feminized seeds are specially bred to get rid of the male chromosomes, producing only female plants rather than male plants.

Cannabis growers growing marijuana plants for smokeable buds prefer feminized marijuana seeds since the female weed plants produce usable cannabinoid-rich flowers. In addition, the feminizing process will allow you to grow and produce high yields for indoor and outdoor gardeners.

Growing Male and Female Seeds

What Are Feminized Cannabis Seeds

The first step of growing cannabis male and female plants is to have them apart. Male cannabis seeds can potentially drain female plants or even take over your garden. Typically, the male plant can over pollinate the female plants, which will eventually spot or slow down the development of the bud, severely reducing your yield.

When starting your weed breeding program, you will definitely need to have both male and female cannabis seeds. Technically plants grow alongside one another, but you should not grow male and female weed plants together. Even in the breeding program, you will require to keep the female and male plants part.

In most cases, male weed plants tend to grow faster than female marijuana plants. After fourteen days into the growth cycle, male weed plants will already be taller than female plants. Male weed plants will start the flowering stage approximately 30 days before their female counterparts.

Uses of Male and Female Marijuana Plants

Methods for Feminizing Cannabis Plants

Female plants are more preferred among t cannabis growers since they can produce flowering buds like potent trichomes in high demand in the medical and recreational cannabis market. The cannabinoids are also found in the male plants, making the males important. However, it is necessary to remember that male plants can not produce usable cannabis. The leaves from the male plant are often used for manufacturing cannabis oil or butter.

Frequently Asked Questions about Male and Female Marijuana seeds

1. Can a female cannabis plant turn male?

Female weed seeds can not be turned into a male but can be turned into a hermaphrodite plant. When a female weed plant becomes hermaphroditic, it grows both male and female strains this way and can pollinate itself.

2. Why are male weed plants also Important?

Although the female plants are generally more valuable, the male marijuana plans are also important. Simply put, male cannabis plants are an important part of any good breeding program. Typically the male plants impregnate female plants by pollinating them.

The male usually develops pollen sacs that release pollen which female plants then use. The male plants offer pest control and increased potency while contributing to gene pool diversity.

3. Can you tell a plant’s gender from cannabis seeds?

Unfortunately, you can not tell the gender of a weed plant just by looking at the seeds. All healthy weed seeds have the same traits: a brown color with streaks of grey and a firm feel. Seeds with a green look with a squishy feel or crack under gentle pressure should be considered unhealthy. Although you can’t determine the marijuana’s gender by its appearance, you can find different breeders offering pre-sexed seeds.

If you’re just getting into the growing game, understanding the types of marijuana seeds you’re using is crucial. Auto-flowering seeds and feminized seeds are two of the most popular options on the Canadian weed market. Growers often either love the convenience of auto-flowering, or the potency of feminized (or they’re fans of both). But one of the most-asked questions we receive is are all auto-flowering marijuana seeds feminized?

It’s one of the largest cause for confusion, as it’s not always clear whether some auto-flowering seeds are feminized. Auto-flowering seeds grow without relying on light cycles. Feminized seeds grow like regular seeds (relying on light cycles) and only contain female genetics, hence only producing female plants and buds. If an auto-flowering seed is not feminized, then there is a 50/50 chance that you’ll get male plants as well as female. And those male plants can cause quite a hassle.

So, are all auto-flowering marijuana seeds feminized? These days, yes, most auto-flowering varieties are feminized. Since auto-flower seeds are designed to streamline the process, it makes sense that they’re feminized to even further speed things up and make things as straightforward as possible.

Before getting your hands on the best auto-flowering and feminized seeds on the market, keep reading to discover more about the two most popular varieties.

What are Auto-Flowering Marijuana Seeds?

It’s pretty much all in the name. “Auto-flowering” refers to the ability of these seeds to flower in an “automatic” sense. This means that they don’t require regular light cycles to grow, in comparison to other seeds which need these light cycles to develop.

You can also refer to regular seeds as photoperiod seeds, if you want to get a little fancy. Photoperiodism is the response to changes in daylength, which allows plants to adjust to seasonal environmental changes.

So, rather than reaching their final form thanks to light, auto-flowering seeds grow and flourish once the plant reaches a certain age. These seeds do need some light to help them on their way, but certainly not as much as feminized or other seeds. In other words, they aren’t light-dependent.

You may have heard a myth floating around that all auto-flowering seeds are less potent than feminized. Due to new research and advancements, you can find auto-flowering varieties with just as much THC potency as regular seeds. THC is a cannabinoid within the marijuana plant that makes you high, whereas CBD has no psychoactive effect.

Pros

  • Ideal for beginner growers
  • Fast harvest period
  • Short and compact for easy growing indoors
  • Not reliant on light cycles
  • High in CBD
  • Strong genetics

Cons

  • Unable to clone (or at least very difficult)
  • Reduced yield
  • Can be less potent in THC

Are All Auto-Flowering Marijuana Seeds Feminized?

When it comes to the feminized or non-feminized topic, you’ll find that most auto-flowering seeds are in fact feminized. Due to the existing user-friendly nature of auto-flowering seeds, it makes sense for most of them to already come feminized. This makes the growing process even easier, as you don’t need to potentially account time for removing male plants from the mix.

Marijuana Seeds

What are Feminized Marijuana Seeds?

Feminized seeds are seeds that only produce female plants, and hence are hugely popular among experienced cultivators. They produce huge yields with strong, potent buds, and are much easier to clone. This means that growers don’t need to purchase new seeds each time, and can instead clone their existing seeds that produced the best plants. You know, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it?

Essentially, feminized seeds eliminate that 50/50 chance of having female or male plants. Male plants are undesirable because they grow pollen sacs instead of buds. It’s these pollen sacs that make the male plants pretty useless (to put it lightly).

Not only can you not smoke male plants, but they can also pollinate the female plants. Once pollinated, the female plants will produce seeds, not buds, so you can’t harvest them to make them into the bud you know and love. This should be left to the real expert growers, as removing the males can be a delicate process.

Pros

  • Ideal for experienced growers
  • Potent yield
  • Stronger genetics
  • Only produces female plants
  • Cost-effective
  • Ideal for cloning

Cons

  • Slightly slower harvest period
  • Possibility of hermaphrodite plants

Male plants do have some uses. For instance, they can be harvested to make a soft hemp fibre, used for clothes or other homeware pieces.

So, feminized is pretty much the way to go if you want a smoother growing process. That is why most people are looking for an auto-flowering variety that is already feminized. If you’re not sure, make sure to always check the strain’s details to ensure that it’s feminized.

Best Way to Store Marijuana Seeds

No matter which kind of seed you’re growing, you need to know how to store it to ensure it stays fresh and survives in time for the germination process. Seeds can be used for up to 10 years if they’ve been stored properly. You should really be using fresh seeds, but that’s to give you an idea of just how important storage is to the viability of your seeds. It’s best to plant your seeds within a year of storage.

  • Keep seeds away from any form of light.
  • Store them between 4.4 °C and 8.3 °C.
  • Control humidity levels between 5% and 9%.
  • Keep them in a clean environment to prevent contamination from insects, bacteria, and mould.
  • Use Mylar bags or glass containers with an airtight seal. Do not use plastic jars or bags, as these are more porous.

Buy Auto-Flowering and Feminized Marijuana Seeds Today

Now you know that most auto-flowering seeds are feminized, it’s time to grow these babies yourself. Make the process easier with some of the best auto-flowering varieties, as well as the best feminized if you’re a little more experienced. To be safe, we suggest always checking each individual strain of seeds to see if they are labelled as “feminized”.

Marijuana seeds come in several different forms, two of the most popular being auto-flowering seeds and feminized seeds. But what is the difference between auto-flowering and feminized marijuana seeds? How do you know which one is best for your growing ventures?

Auto-flowering marijuana seeds automatically grow without relying on light cycles. Feminized marijuana seeds grow like regular seeds, relying on light cycles, and only contain female genetics that produce female buds. Female buds are the only buds that you can smoke, unlike their male counterpart, which you cannot consume.

Both types of seeds have their advantages, which is why it’s important to understand each one. A better understanding means a stronger, healthier yield, which is the ultimate goal of every grower. And before you buy either auto-flowering or feminized seeds from your favourite online seed retailer, you should be setting yourself up for the best chance at a prosperous yield. Keep reading to uncover more about these two popular seeds.

Auto-flowering Marijuana Seeds

Auto-flowering seeds (also known as Cannabis ruderalis) get their name from their autonomy. While you still need to give them the basic necessities – water, nutrition, and of course a few loving words of encouragement – these seeds do not need regular light cycles.

This is quite different from other seeds, especially feminized, as they will only reach the flowering process if they receive a certain amount of light. In other words, they are photoperiod plants. Photoperiodism is the response to changes in daylength, which allows plants to adjust to seasonal environmental changes.

So, instead of flourishing into their final form thanks to light, these plants actually flower once the plant reaches a certain age. You should still use some light to help these seeds on their way, but they are not as dependent on it as feminized or other types of seeds.

Auto-flowering marijuana seeds are fast-growing and produce short plants with thick stems. This all makes sense when you consider their origins close to the North and South Pole. With such extreme, cold conditions, these plants have had to adapt to survive. They’re short to retain heat better, and buds grow quickly to reproduce before they get exposed too much to the cold and die out.

Just starting out? Auto-flowering seeds are most likely the way to go for you. Beginner growers often find these seeds significantly easier to grow than others. You don’t have to worry about constant surveillance, and there is a lot more room for error. Plus, you can account for more harvests in one period since these seeds flower at a faster rate. This means more weed than other seeds, in the same amount of time.

Pros

  • Ideal for beginner growers
  • Fast harvest period
  • Short and compact for easy growing indoors
  • Not reliant on light cycles
  • High in CBD
  • Strong genetics

Cons

  • Unable to clone (or at least very difficult)
  • Reduced yield
  • Less potent in THC

Most Popular Auto-Flowering Strain

If you’ve found yourself to be a fan of the auto-flowering variety, or are simply curious to try it out, then you should give the best-of-the-best a go. There are countless auto-flowering seeds that are fan-favourites, but there’s one in particular that finds itself at the top.

Candy Kush is the best-of-both-worlds as auto-flowering feminized seeds. They have all the advantages of auto-flowering – easier to grow and faster yield – as well as the feminized genetics. This means the growing process is streamlined, plus they are already feminized, so you don’t need to remove the male plants.

Here are some key things to know about Candy Kush:

  • Heavily crystalized buds
  • Sweet and spicy flavours
  • Rapid flowering time between 6 and 8 weeks
  • Short plant stature ideal for indoor growing

Why is this the most popular? Candy Kush is loved for its potent flavour and effects. It offers sedative and euphoric effects, making it the perfect afternoon or evening strain to kick your feet up and relax.

Feminized Marijuana Seeds

Feminized seeds are seeds that only produce female plants, and hence are hugely popular among experienced cultivators. They produce huge yields with strong, potent buds, and are much easier to clone. This means that growers don’t need to purchase new seeds each time, and can instead clone their existing seeds that produced the best plants. You know, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it?

Essentially, feminized seeds eliminate that 50/50 chance of having female or male plants. Male plants are undesirable because they grow pollen sacs instead of buds. It’s these pollen sacs that make the male plants unsuitable.

Not only can you not smoke male plants, but they can also pollinate the female plants. Once pollinated, the female plants will produce seeds, not buds, so you can’t harvest them to make them into the bud you know and love. This should be left to the real expert growers, as removing the males can be a delicate process.

To be fair, male plants do have a couple of uses. For instance, they can be harvested to make a soft hemp fibre, used for clothes or other homeware pieces.

Pros

  • Ideal for experienced growers
  • Potent yield
  • Stronger genetics
  • Only produces female plants
  • Cost-effective
  • Ideal for cloning

Cons

  • Slightly slower harvest period
  • Possibility of hermaphrodite plants

Most Popular Feminized Strain

If you think you’re more of a feminized seed kind of gal or guy, then give the best strain on the market a go: Allen Wrench. High in THC, this strain offers some great earthy, woody flavours, and it won’t knock you out on the couch like some other THC-dominant varieties.

Here are some key things to know about Candy Kush:

  • Rich, earthy flavours
  • Fast flowering time between 10 and 11 weeks
  • High THC concentration of 24%

Growing Allen Wrench should be done by fairly experienced growers. You can grow it inside or out, but if you do grow indoors then we suggest you install an odour-control system, as its aroma is pretty potent.

Which One Should I Choose?

Looking at the difference between auto-flowering and feminized marijuana seeds will help you in deciding which is best for you. We suggest going for auto-flowering if you’re just starting out, as these seeds are simpler to grow and leave greater room for error. Feminized seeds remove the risk of growing male plants, which can contaminate the females, making them grow seeds instead of buds. If you still can’t decide, try out both seeds if you have the means.

If you are interested in growing your own marijuana, chances are you want the most “bang for your buck,” right? Getting the most yield from your plants is the goal of marijuana-growing enthusiasts everywhere.

After all the effort of growing and maintaining a marijuana plant, a wimpy yield comes harvest season is a disappointment. Luckily, we’re here to help.

If you’re interested in a marijuana plant yield of up to half a pound per plant, this article has all the details. Read on to learn more!

Getting The Right Seeds

Before getting into the weeds about equipment and soil chemistry, the best place to start for a high marijuana plant yield is with the seeds themselves.

Keep in mind that some varieties of marijuana are higher in flower output than others. If you are looking for bulk over everything else, consider strains such as Blue Dream, Sour Diesel, and Northern Lights, all known for growing big.

You’ll also want to start with some high-quality seeds. The Seed Pharm has you covered, with an extensive selection of top-notch seeds.

Indoor vs. Outdoor Marijuana Plant Yield

Whether you grow marijuana indoors or out, there are a variety of factors to consider for each method.

Indoor growing typically has a lower average yield but is protected from many bugs and other pests. You also have more control over the growing environment, including pH levels, water, and nutrients.

A good indoor yield on a single plant will average around a quarter of a pound. The main restriction for an indoor plant is space, so a large grow tent or room will give a bigger yield than a plant in tight quarters.

Outdoor plants are much less restricted by space and yield nearly double the flower, on average. However, you have to contend with less control over the environmental conditions.

Soil vs. Hydroponic

If you opt for indoor growing, there are two additional options that you’ll have to contend with. Debate rages on as to whether soil or hydroponics are best, but we’ll let you decide.

Soil is much easier for people new to growing. We all understand planting a seed in soil and watching it grow. It is also a lot less expensive to get started with.

However, even high-quality soil can bring in plant diseases and pests. It also does not give as high of a marijuana plant yield as hydroponics.

Hydroponic systems are considered to be the top of the line to grow marijuana indoors. They do tend to be pricey, even for a starter system, but it’s very hard to argue with the results.

Another potential downside to hydroponic systems rests on whether or not you have a lot of time to “babysit” your plants. Hydroponics requires constant tweaking of nutrients and pH levels.

Maximizing Your Marijuana Plant Yield

Whether you’re new to growing or an experienced veteran, your goal is likely the same: to have the highest possible marijuana plant yield. With the right seeds, conditions, and effort, you can easily maximize your yields per plant!

Autoflowering marijuana seeds (also referred to as Cannabis ruderalis) are a type of seed that doesn’t rely on light cycles to grow. This is different to regular marijuana seeds or feminized marijuana seeds which both will only start flowering depending on the amount of light they receive. This means they are “photoperiod” plants. So, it’s pretty much all in the name – “auto” flowering means the seeds produce plants that automatically flower once the plant becomes a certain age. The light should still be used to help auto-flowering strains grow, but they are not as dependent on it.

Auto-flowering marijuana seeds are fast-growing and produce short plants with thick stems. This all makes sense when you consider their origins close to the North and South Pole. With such extreme, cold conditions, these plants have had to adapt to survive. They’re short to retain heat better, and buds grow quickly to reproduce before they get exposed to much to the cold and die out.

How can you grow autoflowering cannabis seeds? The process isn’t much different from growing other seeds, but it is a lot faster – they’ll be ready to harvest anywhere from 8 to 12 weeks. Keep reading for a more in-depth look at autoflowering marijuana seeds to find out whether they’re right for your garden.

How to Grow Autoflowering Marijuana Seeds

When growing autoflowering strains, it’s important to remember that these will grow much quicker than what you might be used to if you’ve grown other seed varieties before. You can definitely try growing these if you’re a beginner, and they are pretty appealing to more experienced growers since they can take advantage of faster, more frequent harvests.

1.    Germination

Germination is fast with these seeds, taking just one to five days rather than up to ten days like some varieties. One of the easiest ways is to drop the seeds gently into a glass of room-temperature water and keep it in a dark space at around 27°C. After 72 hours you can transfer it to a soaking wet paper towel – cover it with a more wet paper towel to keep it dark and warm. Once you see it sprout, transfer it to the soil.

2.    Seedling

By now, a seedling should be visible. The leaves are very small at this stage. This is where you can provide some light, like a 250W LED, and you can also give some nutrients. Auto-flowering varieties need only a quarter to half the amount of nutrients that would be given to photoperiods.

3.    Vegetation

For the best growing process, keep the environmental temperature no more or less than 20°C and humidity levels between 40% and 50%. Provide half a litre of water each day. You might even begin to see some flowering happening at the later vegetative stage!

4.    Flowering

Now you’ll notice some sacs begin to peek out from the nodes. At their biggest, autoflowering marijuana plants can grow up to just 60cm. Increase the surrounding temperature by about 1° each week, reaching 25°C by the final week.

And there you have it – your hard work has paid off! You’ll know it’s time to harvest when the trichomes get a little cloudy in colour and the pistils have a brown shade with some red tones. Remember that some autos take a little longer to grow, while others are very fast, so just be patient and take your time.

Is it Best to Grow Marijuana From Autoflowering Seeds?

Choosing autos to grow in your garden is one of the best options, as they are low-maintenance, fast-yielding, and strong against exterior factors. Since they grow quicker, you can even get multiple harvests into the span of one regular harvest. Here are some other advantages of growing using autos:

  • The plants they produce are short, which means they are easier to keep private from prying neighbours. This also prevents the need for constant trellising, so they are quite low maintenance.
  • You can harvest larger amounts more often due to the fast flowering process.
  • These plants are resistant to unstable temperatures, so you could even grow all year round. You should still keep them warm, but if a little cold gets in, they won’t be as affected as other types of seeds.
  • They are resistant to mould and pests.
  • A high CBD content within auto seeds makes them perfect for making products for medicinal users.

Final Thoughts

What Are Autoflowering Marijuana Seeds? They are a fast-yielding, strong and low-maintenance variety that is fast becoming the preferred seeds for many experienced growers. But that doesn’t mean beginners should count them out – since they are so much easier to grow and maintain, there is a little more room for error. While feminized marijuana seeds are maybe a little more efficient, they are nowhere near as fast or resistant as the auto-flowering variety.

Feminized marijuana seeds are seeds that only contain female genetics and produce only female plants and buds once grown, which, unlike male cannabis plants, can produce THC buds that are strong and potent. Any person who’s ever smoked a joint, devoured some edibles, or dabbled in concentrates needs to thank the humble marijuana plant. Or more importantly, the female plant.

You see, when a marijuana plant grows naturally or with traditional breeding techniques, the yield will produce both male and female species of the plant. The male species typically gets discarded as it isn’t as much use to the grower. Male plants don’t give high psychoactive effects.

What’s more, a male plant will contaminate the females by pollinating them, leading to a fully unusable yield. Traditional breeding sees growers planting double the amount of seeds with the knowledge that around half the seeds will be useless.

Is this method of planting twice as many seeds and throwing out half your harvest practical? No, it’s not. And that’s why growers are turning to feminized marijuana seeds as a solution. Keep reading to find out more about these little gems and why they’re so important.

How to Feminize Marijuana Seeds

First, it’s time to familiarize yourself with a little Marijuana Seeds 101 thanks to Leafly, so you know where the whole process starts and how it will affect your yield.

  • In order for male and female cannabis plants to reproduce, the males must pollinate the females using their pollen sacs. This causes the female to sprout seeds.
  • After these seeds mature, the female plant will die, and these seeds have one of three options. They either get harvested to make into food products, get down into the ground later, or drop onto the ground naturally where fresh plants will grow next Spring.
  • In order to avoid this, growers will plant feminized seeds without male plants around, so that the female plants produce buds instead of the seeds that eventually cause them to die.

Now that you’ve got a better idea of the meanings behind feminized and male cannabis plants, let’s cover How to Feminize Marijuana Seeds. The general aim here is to help the female plant produce pollen sacs, just as a male would. These sacs are then harvested to pollinate more female plants, which results in all-female seeds.

Use Colloidal Silver or Gibberellic Acid

Colloidal Silver is a silver thiosulphate solution that is sprayed onto the female plants, which then lets you manage the sex of the plant without any kind of modification. Colloidal silver is a mixture of silver and water and is readily available online. You can also make it yourself.

Use this solution to spray the bud sites of the plant each day for a period of up to four weeks during the flowering – this is when the pollen sacs begin to form and start opening. Remember not to smoke any plants that have been sprayed with colloidal silver.

You can also use gibberellic acid. It is a hormone that also triggers germination, but it is less commonly used as it isn’t as efficient.

Gather the Pollen

You’ll know when the sacs are ready to be picked when they have swollen and grown. Be careful not to harvest before the sacs have opened. Otherwise, they might be hollow. Keep spraying with the colloidal silver solution if needed. You can go about harvesting the pollen in several ways, such as putting a plastic bag over the plant or using a plastic cup to catch falling pollen.

Continue the Cycle

Now you can take this harvested pollen and fertilize another female plant. We suggest pollinating a whole different plant rather than the same one. It boosts the number of seeds and also creates more diverse genetics.

Simply take the pollen on a small brush and place it on the developing buds of another plant. From here, wait about five to six weeks and the calyxes of the buds will swell up. This means it’s time to harvest those seeds – and there you have it! Your own feminized cannabis seeds.

Final Thoughts

Feminized seeds are the most efficient way to grow marijuana. You don’t have to worry about wasting so many plants by throwing out half of your yield, so you’re saving plenty when it comes to time and money. Feminized marijuana seeds are also perfect for both indoor and outdoor growing. While these seeds are more preferred by beginners due to their limits in genetic and strain diversity, they are a great way to start out when learning how to grow cannabis.

As the sweet smell of warmer months approaches, I’m getting pretty excited to start growing marijuana at home. The spring and summer months are the perfect time to grow your own weed. But Hydroponic vs Soil: Which is Better for Growing Marijuana? We want to help you out here at The Seed Pharm to guide you along the way.

One of the most popular questions we get about growing cannabis at home is whether to use hydroponic or soil. Which is better for growing marijuana? Is it really going to make a difference? Does hydroponic or soil give the best yield?

While growing marijuana with hydroponics is a little pricier from the get-go, it’s much more cost-efficient in the long run with hydro technology getting cheaper and more accessible every day. But if you do want to use soil, you should also know how that works, so that you can make your own decision based on your needs and available resources.

Keep on reading to learn everything you need to know about growing weed with hydroponics vs. soil.

How Can I Grow Marijuana?

Growing your own bud can seem a little overwhelming at first, but it’s actually quite an easy process. It’s learning how to grow great quality weed that takes more time, care and patience (which is more than double when you’re a true cannabis lover like me).

Check out this summarized version of marijuana plant growth stages from Leafly to help you get a basic understanding of what to expect:

  • Seed germination is the first step, and this takes anywhere from 3 to 10 days. Once the seed sprouts, it’s ready to be planted into its growing medium.
  • Seedling stage takes 2 to 3 weeks. From here, it will develop larger cannabis fan leaves, and a fully grown plant will have up to 7 blades per leaf. It’s important to watch how much you water the plant at this stage as it doesn’t need a lot of water at this point.
  • Vegetative state is next and it takes anywhere from 3 to 16 weeks. The plant needs up to 6 hours of sunlight per day, as well as a few hours of indirect sunlight. If you’re growing indoors, it needs 16 hours a day. This is where your plant will really flourish, and you should have transferred it over to a bigger pot. You can start watering it more and make sure to keep it healthy with plenty of nutrients.
  • Flowering stage is the final phase and runs the length of 8 to 11 weeks. This is where you’ll start to see some of those sticky, resinous buds form. Buds grow the most at the finish of the flowering life cycle. This is also where you can start celebrating your achievements – your hard work has seriously paid off!

If you’re anything like me and love getting a little more in-depth, you’ll find everything you need in our Beginners Guide to Growing Marijuana.

Now that you have a basic understanding, which seeds should you get? Here are some of our most popular at The Seed Pharm as well as user reviews.

So Hydroponic vs Soil: Which is Better for Growing Marijuana?

Using a hydroponic system means using water as the main growing medium, rather than any type of soil. The roots grow right down into the water where there is a water reservoir. Growers often report much larger yields, more appealing-looking buds, and it’s easier to sustain.

Pros:

  • Easier to control quality and quantity of nutrients
  • Space-saving as you need less room for the roots
  • Easily grow indoor or outdoor
  • Reduced risk of diseases and pests

Cons:

  • Can be more expensive upfront
  • Requires more patience, care and attention

Soil is more of a traditional growing method and is loved by both beginners and pros growers. Rather than a water system nourishing the plants, everything comes from the nutrients in the soil which helps sustain them. Much like other plants it still needs to be watered, but water is not its only source.

Pros:

  • Requires less care and maintenance than hydroponic growing
  • A more forgiving growing process
  • Great for outdoor growing
  • More affordable

Cons:

  • Slower growth period
  • Bugs and other pests can attack soil

How to Grow Marijuana with Soil

  • You can either dig a hole outside and fill it with fresh soil or fill some pots with soil. Make sure you understand the type of soil you’re using. Silty soil is the most ideal type of soil for growing cannabis, but you can also use sandy soil. Clay and loam soils are also options, but not as easy to grow with.
  • Consider soaking your marijuana seeds to help them germinate. You can soak them for up to 12 hours, and afterwards put them on a towel or paper towel and store them outside of direct sunlight, but still keep them warm.
  • Continue spraying these seeds to keep them moist and wait for them to germinate. They should open up within 48 hours, but this will vary depending on the type of seed and surrounding conditions.
  • Once germinated, fill up some pots of containers with soil. Delicately insert the seeds into some small holes, but don’t put them too deep or too close to the surface of the soil.
  • From here, spray the pots around two times per day and ensure they receive up to 16 hours of light each day.

How to Grow Marijuana with Hydroponics

  • Start by setting up the water reservoir. This will hold the water pump and air stone, as well as a drainage line.
  • The grow table is next, and this is where the plants will gain and return the leftover water to the reservoir.
  • Each bucket for the grow table should be able to hold around 19L and need to have holes drained into the base to let the excess water drain out. Fill these buckets up with clay pellets after soaking them overnight.
  • Use the plastic tubing from the water pump and place it across the table. Use the drip line gear to pierce holes into the buckets and attach the drip line emitters to the ends of the drip lines.
  • Practice the system to make sure it’s working before putting the plants in. Water should be constantly moving from the air pump that helps it run and stay oxygenated.
  • Now you can fill up the reservoir with the nutrient-rich water solution and place the germinated seeds inside the pellets.

Final Thoughts

The ultimate question here is: Hydroponic vs Soil: Which is Better for Growing Marijuana? Which growing option does it seem like you’d prefer? At the end of the day, the right way to grow marijuana depends on yourself. If possible, try experimenting with both soil and hydroponic methods to see which one suits you best. Hydroponic growing is more expensive upfront but can save space, reduce pests, and has easier quality control. Soil growing is easier and more cost-effective for beginners, requires less maintenance, and has a very forgiving growing process.

How Many Marijuana Seeds Should I Buy?

This is definitely one of the most-asked questions, and prospective gardeners also wonder whether all seeds will survive.

The truth is that it’s completely normal for some seeds to die off, actually about a quarter of them from the total amount of seeds. But don’t let that stop you, because it actually won’t affect anything overall when you consider its small percentage.

Some seeds won’t germinate due to them being male, and these should be removed and discarded. Feminized seeds are used because a much higher ratio of them will flower.

If you use feminized seeds, you can start with around 12 seeds per cannabis plant. Once some of them don’t germinate, you can then reduce it down to the six best performing phenotypes.

Always remember: don’t go beyond your state’s legal growing limit.

Where Can I Buy Marijuana Seeds in Canada and U.S.A?

Where can you buy them specifically in Canada and the US? The good news is that you don’t have to look far, but that also means you need to be more careful about where you’re buying from.

Indica versus Sativa

When I was a teenager, there was just “weed”, good stuff and bad stuff. I didn’t know what indica versus sativa even meant. There were very little to no choices over what type of weed you could get. You were just generally happy to get high and watch a Pink Floyd lazer show. Today, with all the advances and the possibility to buy marijuana seeds online you can grow your own cannabis at home. You can now choose the genetics and strains that interest you and not just whatever your local market can provide. Therefor it depends on the seeds genetics as the plant you want to grow could be a poor choice for your environment and or skill level. Indica, sativas, and the many hybrid strains in between all grow differently. In today’s article, were going to explore some of the differences between growing the 3 different cannabis types.

Indica Strains

Lets talk about indica strains to start with. Indicas were pretty much all you could grow in North America before sativa and hybrids were introduced. Some of the characteristics of indica plants are that they produce higher yields. They also have a shorter flowering time than sativas, and they tend to be a shorter bushier plant. The yields and flowering time associated with indica plants are what makes them so popular with growers. This means more bang for your buck if you are growing to make money. Because of the shorter flowering times, this allows outdoor growing to exist in climates where fall turns into winter quickly. For indoor growing, it just allows you to turn your crops over faster throughout the year and increase your profit margins. Also, due to the indica plants being shorter and bushier, it makes them more ideal for indoor growing when space can be limited. These are our favourite indica strains: Bluberry and Bubba Kush.

Sativa Strains

Sativa was always originally grown near the equator because of the mild winters and long summers. Some of the characteristics of the sativa plant are lower yields and longer flowering times. The plants are tall and lanky with thinner leaves than their indica cousins have. The longer grow cycle and smaller yields are generally a downside for most growers.  Also, due to the height of sativa plants, they can be difficult to work with when growing indoors. But there’s lots of upside to growing sativa plants too. I personally prefer sativa strains over indica ones. There have been some advances in the breeding and genetics of sativa strains over the years.  Lately, some have been developed to have faster flowering times and provide a higher yield. Sativas are able to handle the heat better than indicas. Which is a benefit if you are growing indoors or in hotter climates like Arizona. Our favorite sativa strains are Jack Herer and Sour Diesel.

Hybrid Strains

Finally, we have the hybrid cannabis plant. Hybrids combine the best of both sativas and indicas. Hybrid characteristics can vary based on their breeding and depending on what strain is more dominant in them. Their flowering time varies, they generally produce a high yield which is important, and their shape and size varies depending on their dominant gene. To be honest, most strains on the market today are a hybrid one way or another. Generally they will lean towards one side of their genetic spectrum and take on the dominant traits. For example, they can inherit the shorter grow time of an indica strain, while providing the cerebral highs common with a sativa. Again, they usually have the higher yields associated with indicas, and sharing the faster vegetative growth step of sativas. Some of our favorite hybrid strains are Arjan Haze and Ice Wreck.

Thanks for stopping by today at the Seed Pharm, hope this article was helpful!

Indoor vs Outdoor Weed

Growing indoor vs outdoor weed has been up for debate a lot lately. For many years growing cannabis outdoors was the only option. Growing it indoors has really taken off in the last few decades. Most of the advancements in cannabis production are a result of indoor growing. Finding ways to improve lighting, mediums, exhaust systems and doing it undetected. Of course the easy excess to seeds online have an influence on the numbers as well. As technology improved, the industry was able to expand its knowledge of the plant by leaps and bounds. This was also true for areas where outdoor farming managed to succeed like Northern California and Southern Oregon.

The differences between indoor vs outdoor weed growing are important to know for the grower and the consumer. Environment, costs and quality are the main factors to consider for the grower. While quality is probably the most important for the consumer. We’re going to look at three key differences between the two methods today.

Costs to Grow Weed

First up are the costs associated with indoor vs outdoor weed growing methods. Both indoor and outdoor operations require substantial starting costs. But the differences really start to show long-term. Indoor climate control systems can cost a small fortune to operate. Whereas a majority of the costs associated with outdoor grows are just in the beginning of the operation. Labor costs also vary between the two methods, with continual turnover in an indoor garden, there’s always work to be done. After you bought the marijuana seeds online and planted them the exciting work starts. Pruning, trellising, watering, feeding, and harvest work are ongoing and more demanding for smaller yields. Outdoors, the grower is working one crop throughout the season. Many outdoor farms with large outputs can operate with minimal employees until harvest, when additional help will be needed.

Indoor Costs

The high costs associated with indoor growing can be recovered through breeding year-round harvests, and creating potent products that have higher selling points. Also indoor growing allows for strains that would otherwise be unsuitable for their local outdoor environment and climate. However, with the rising cost of energy and an increasing demand for more flower in the marketplace, outdoor farming may be able supply the market with quality products at a more reasonable price.

Environments

Next up we have controlled environments vs the natural environment outdoor. Indoor farming allows for complete control of your environment from heat, humidity, light source, C02 production and temperature etc. Controlling these creates a stable habitat to optimize your plants’ growth without having to risk outdoor elements. The indoor grower typically finds cosmetically pristine flowers with a higher THC count. On the flip side, no bulb can produce the same spectrum of light unique to the sun. Which in turn, limits indoor gardens with smaller yields and less vigorous plants. Outdoor farming, however, requires a climate suitable for cannabis production. Good sun exposure, hot days, warm nights, and low humidity.

Complications and Hazards

Growing indoors has complications as well. When the grower tries to simulate a natural environment, there are factors in the natural process that simply cant be replicated. For example, plants grown outside have substantial help against mites from natural predators who share the habitat. Wasps, ants, and ladybugs are some of “nature’s helpers” that keep mite populations at bay. Indoors, the grower cannot hope to completely mimic the incredibly complicated natural environment. If mites appear in an indoor grow space, they can be a challenge to control.

Quality of Indoor vs Outdoor Weed

Finally we’re going to compare the quality of the cannabis between the two methods. Indoor buds have long been recognized as the top-of-the-line product. Being able to control your environment and expedite breeding has resulted in beautiful looking strains with magnificent flavour profiles. Introducing higher CO2 levels than in the natural environment increases bud growth and produces THC levels that are difficult to obtain outdoors. Additionally, indoor cannabis does not have to deal with rain, wind, or any of the other natural elements that can damage an outdoor crop. The buds remain in pristine condition and only start to degrade once handling begins. The scale of most indoor operations generally allows for crops to be harvested in peak conditions and for the product to be cured in a controlled climate.

Of course when growing outdoors, we aren’t able to control the natural environment. Though the end product may not look as pretty as an indoor grown one, the taste, effects, and aroma should still be there. Some consumers find sun-grown organic cannabis to be preferable to the cosmetically pristine indoor alternative. Recently there has been an emergence of commercial greenhouse farming that strikes a balance between the two methods. This style of farming is producing quality results, which is exciting to see in this emerging industry. As we have seen, all styles of farming offer positives and negatives, so give methods a shot if you can and stick to what you like and what works best for you. We love growing our own plants and seeding how different they develop!

Marijuana Effects

Now that it is easy to buy Marijuana Seeds online. As such, more and more people are getting interested in how marijuana effects it has on the body and mind. The most psychoactive agent in marijuana is called THC. There are more than 110 cannabinoids present in cannabis, and the effects are largely unknown. It is widely regarded that the most potent psychoactive agent in cannabis is THC.

When cannabis is smoked or inhaled, the bloodstream quickly absorbs the THC. Then it reaches the brain within minutes and seconds, depending on the potency and quality. Edibles with THC are absorbed slower thru the body when it is eaten through chocolates or brownies. Consuming Marijuana this way has a delaying affect on the body, even up to several hours before the user feels it.

Cannabinoids and THC commonly found in marijuana are very similar to ones the body produces naturally. These natural produced cannabinoids act like neurotransmitters between nerve cells that send chemical messages throughout the nervous system. These neurotransmitters effect the brain in several different areas. Areas like pleasure, time perception, thinking, memory, concentration, movement, and coordination. Receptors that respond to these cannabinoids also respond to THC, which can disrupt and alter or normal daily brain functions. Especially people who suffer from abnormal brain functions benefit from buying Marijuana seeds online.

THC

THC also affects the orbitofrontal cortex and hippocampus. Certain areas of the brain that control attention and memory creation. Furthermore, THC disrupts the function of the cerebellum. This adversely affects posture, coordination, reaction time and balance. For these reasons, it is unsafe for an individual using marijuana to operate heavy machinery or perform surgeries. It isn’t safe to drive a vehicle, participate in sports or certain potentially dangerous physical activities.

Main reason THC stimulates is due to the increase in the release of dopamine. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter related to feelings of pleasure and relaxation. Effects of dopamine can be found in other more harmful drugs such as nicotine, heroin and cocaine.  Marijuana also produces sensory perception changes. Emotions are more profound, music can be more intense, and  colours may seem brighter.

Effects of Cannabis

When cannabis is smoked or eaten, the following effects are possible. You will feel an increase in appetite. Either a reduction or increase in nausea with an increased heart rate. Ones perception changes as marijuana can distort reality. Moods can be altered, you will feel a state of relaxation and euphoria. Patients will experience lower blood pressure levels. Marijuana also can reduce co-ordination and impair memory and concentration levels. Lastly, if you want to grow Marijuana, you can buy seeds online here with us at The Seed Pharm.

Dutch Treat Strain

The world is growing folks, and we here at the Seed Pharm love that. Today we’re going to talk about one of our locals the Dutch Treat strain. And no, we’re not based in Amsterdam as the name sounds, we’re based in the bud capital of Canada, BC. Dutch Treat is a hybrid strain, and leans more on the indica side of the strains. You can always tell Dutch Treat by it’s sweet piney smell and well balanced high. Being a more dominant indica strain, you’ll still be happy with the euphoric high you get.

Being developed in BC, and considering we like to chill out here on the west coast, Dutch Treat is an easier strain to grow. We wanted a marijuana that is easy to grow, produces an amazing yield, and can be grown in 40 – 56 days. Dutch Treat is meant for indoor growing, and can use either a hydroponic or soil set up. It has a unique and forgiving bud structure, which makes it a good strain to try for inexperienced growers.

Ideal temperatures should be in the 21 to 26 degrees Celsius range. You will want to keep your humidity and air flow down to ensure the quality of your buds. Indoor growing is ideal for Dutch Treat, as it will help to bring out its amazing aroma and will protect its terpenes. You will want to keep the lower half of the plant clear so the energy and nutrients reach where they need to be. You will also be pleased with the feeding of this strain. Just standard nutrients will do for this easy maintenance plant.

Lastly, we hope this was helpful, and Seed Pharm wishes you the best with your next Dutch Treat grow.

Sour Diesel

It’s easy to buy marijuana seeds online, but have you tried growing Canadian marijuana seeds before but struggled? If so you’re not alone. Not all strains are as easy to grow as others. Today we are going to explore the popular strain Sour Diesel. We will give some background on the plant and some tips to help bring you the best crop possible.

Sour Diesel is a hybrid strain, bred from Super Skunk and Chemdawg 91. It is a sativa-dominant strain. (Xanax) Lots of people from the East Coast buy marijuana seeds online. Sour D is a very popular strain there, it’s recognizable by its unique pungent diesel aroma and for its energizing qualities. It’s hard to find a smoker than hasn’t experienced Sour Diesel. Thus making it among the most celebrated strains of all time.

Sativa Dominant Marijuana Strain

As mentioned, Sour Diesel is a sativa-dominant strain, which tends to grow lankier and taller than other strains. It can be a bit more difficult to manage than other plants. As its know to stretch several times when flowering. For a successful grow, you must stay on top of it. Pruning, training and topping it to keep this plant from growing out of control. If you are doing an indoor grow, its a good idea to use soil. This can help to steady the growth of this great Canadian marijuana seed.

Being one of the larger cannabis plants, Sour Diesel requires more feeding than others do. This plant grows vigorously and feeds heavily through the flowering stage. This extended feeding is worth it, as it allows its buds to maximize their potential. It’s recommended to feed the plants with a finishing nutrient. Hence it allows its sativa based buds to dense up before their final flush.

Climate for Sour D Strain

Sour Diesel prefers to grow in a mild to warm climate with ideal temperatures between 20 degrees to 29 degrees Celsius. Normal flowering time is 70 to 77 days. You should get a moderate bud yield from your crop, if you can control the stretching and feeding of this sativa, you will receive bigger yields.

This is a versatile Canadian marijuana seed strain and can grow indoor and outdoors. Due to the size and space required for Sour Diesel, its a good choice for outdoor grows. Or indoor grows in a warehouse or greenhouse that allows room for it to stretch. Sorry, this one isn’t easy to grow in small, condensed places. You want to make sure your climate stays constant as this plant is a late finisher. If you’re growing outdoors, make sure you will still have warm temperatures into October and November. Cannabis Plant

As of Monday morning (April 24), the cannabis plant stood roughly 20 centimetres high. They were found in grey planters near the centre of the garden.

Young contacted UBC botany professor Jonathan Page to confirm that the plants were indeed cannabis. Though it’s uncertain whether they were hemp. The version of the plant often used in textiles and a host of other applications. Or the flower-bearing version of the plant known as marijuana. Which contains higher levels of THC, the cannabinoid responsible for the high one feels after consumption.

On April 24, Ian Young photographed cannabis plants growing in this planter at the Vancouver City Hall community garden. When the Straight went to the garden to confirm that the plants were there, they had already been removed.

Despite the perceived grey area around laws in Vancouver, growing cannabis outside of Canada’s federally licensed program is illegal.

City staff were notified of the plants. When the Straight visited the garden this afternoon, no cannabis could be seen in the grey planters indicated in Young’s photographs.

On April 24, Ian Young photographed cannabis plants growing in this planter at the Vancouver City Hall community garden. When the Straight went to the garden to confirm that the plants were there, they had already been removed.
AMANDA SIEBERT

Though no one is sure where the plants came from, the Straight called cannabis activist Dana Larsen. Dana’s OverGrow Canada campaign has seen approximately five million cannabis seeds mailed across the country. As well as given away at 4/20 rallies to those interested in participating.

Cannabis Campaign

The campaign calls on “all freedom-loving Canadians to grow a cannabis victory garden. Instructions posted on OverGrow Canada’s website, Larsen suggests that these seeds be planted “at City Hall, in front of the local police station, in storefront planters, and other highly visible places.”

“I hope [the plants] are from our campaign. But I know we’re not the only ones with the same idea,” Larsen told the Straight by phone this afternoon. “Regardless, if they’re my seeds or someone else’s, I hope that it keeps happening.”

He added that it’s unfortunate to see the effort spent to remove them so quickly. But said he was glad to hear that the plants got some attention.

For Larsen, the initiative to see cannabis grown in outdoor gardens and public spaces is all part of his goal to normalize the plant.

“I want to live in a country where you see cannabis growing in somebody’s front yard, and it’s not a big deal,” he said.

Larsen acknowledged concerns from parents and politicians about plants growing in areas where children play, but debunked the idea that cannabis plants can be harmful.

OverGrow Canada

“People always worry about playgrounds and schools, but the truth is cannabis is fine for a playground. There’s no harm from it growing as a plant, and there are far more toxic, dangerous plants at elementary schools. These plants are far more harmful than anything cannabis ever could be,” Larsen said. “I don’t see any harm in cannabis plants growing in places where any other plants can grow.”

This year’s OverGrow Canada campaign has come to a close. Larsen said anyone interested in receiving seeds as part of the 2018 campaign can pre-register now.

AK-47 Strain

Ever wanted to try your hands with AK-47 strain? No not the famous Russian weapon, the even more famous cannabis strain AK-47. Originally developed by Serious Seeds in 1992, and loved by many for delivering its powerful high ever since. AK-47 is a an award winning hybrid strain. It has also been used by many great breeders to develop other popular strains in today’s marketplace.

AK-47 thrives best in indoor grow space over outdoor ones. It flowers fairly quickly and delivers tremendous yields. Average flowering time is 7 to 8 weeks. The Seed Pharm would consider AK to be on moderate side of growing difficulties, so it is a good strain for most people to try. It’s known for its big buds and its sweet and pungent aroma.

AK-47 Ideal Climate

AK-47 likes a mild and dry climate, and grown indoors allows you to regulate the humidity. Ideal temperatures are between 20 degrees to 26 degrees Celsius. Because of its big and beautiful dense buds, AK-47 is prone to bud rot. So you will want to monitor this indoors, and conversely, this makes it a challenge trying to grow it outdoors. Also, in order to get those big sexy buds, you have to feed this plant. AK-47 requires a lot of feeding during flowering. You will want to keep your phosphorus levels high while you monitor bud development. This will give you enough time to flush your plants prior to harvest.

Soil or Medium

You will want to use an organic soil or hydroponic mediums to the get the best result when growing indoors. The Seed Pharm recommends using the Sea of Green (SOG) method with this strain. You will create an even canopy by pruning and topping your AK plants, and at the same time training them through trellising. Remember that AK-47 is known for its pungent aroma, so have a good air filtration system and keep an eye on it so it runs effectively. As a result, if you’re growing “under the radar’, this may be a difficult strain to pull off. Or at least take the necessary precautions, so you wont draw attention to your grow.

How to Germinate Cannabis Seeds

Here is an easy to follow a 4 step guide on how to germinate cannabis seeds.

Step 1 – Setting Up:

  • First you will need any 2 traditional kitchen plates. Smaller sized ones work best. Line one of the plates with a few layers of wet tissue and drain any excess water from the plate. You want moisture, not a flood. Then place your cannabis seeds on top of the tissue, giving each seed as much space as possible. Pretend you are baking cookies on a tray. Then, place another few layers of moist tissue on top of the seeds. Again moisture is the key, not a flood and allow any excess water to run off. Finally you want to create a dark and moist environment for germination. So cover the first plate with the second plate, upside down, to form a clam like shell shape.

Step 2 -Germination:

  • Take your claim like plates and place them somewhere warm (ideally around 21ºC) and out of direct light. Check on them daily and make sure the tissues having dried out. Moreover, use a spray bottle if you have to touch up the tissues to maintain moisture. Usually within 24 to 72 hours, your seeds should start to open up exposing a small root. This is known as your taproot. Don’t give up if your root hasn’t shot thru yet, some seeds can take up to 10 days to germinate. Once the first few millimeters of root have emerged from your germinated seed, your seeds should be carefully transferred to a small container of your growing medium. Hence the growing medium can be rockwool, coco-fibre or organic soil.

Step 3 – Potting:

  • You will want to plant your germinated cannabis seed approx. 1.2 – 2.5cm below your grow mediums surface. Make a little hole for your seed and place the cannabis seed root down into the hole. Then cover the hole with a minimal amount of grow medium. Enough to block out the light, but not too much to stunt the seedlings growth from pushing upwards. You will start to notice your Cannabis seedlings poking through the surface within 72 hours after being planted.
Step 4 – The Seedling:
  • Newly sprouted seedlings should be exposed to bright light from the time they emerge. The seedlings are quite delicate in the beginning, so extra care needs to be given for the first 2 weeks. Thus seedlings intended for outdoor growing should be acclimatized to direct sunlight to simulate their environment. Pace them on a windowsill inside the house to increase their exposure to direct sunlight. Do this for an hour or two per day. Seedlings intended for indoor grows may emerge into an artificially lit environment. If you are using an HID lighting system, remember that seedlings should be kept a min distance of 50 to 80cm from the bulb. Seedlings growing under the use of fluorescent lights, can be kept a normal distance from the tube/bulb.  Lastly, buy your Marijuana seeds from the seed pharm today!

How to Store Cannabis Seeds

We are often asked “what’s the best way to store my marijuana seeds?”. So we decided to set up some helpful guidelines on how to store cannabis seeds. Canadian mj seeds should be kept in a dry and cool place. Rapid changes in temperature and air humidity are detrimental to cannabis seeds. We find the best and easiest way to preserve your seeds is to place them in an airtight plastic container. Then keep them in a dark dry room (a closest or cupboard are good choices).

Something to keep in mind, is that marijuana seeds are living organisms. During storage, they are in a state of rest. So picture yourself resting – in the dark, in a dry place without fluctuation of light and humidity. Once a Canada marijuana seed comes into contact with humidity, all the nutritional substances they contain get released and this starts the germination process. For longer preservation periods, ideal circumstances are to have humidity under 9%. It’s also a good idea to vacuum seal your seed package for extended storage periods.

Temperature

It’s also best to keep your mj seeds in a consistent temperature. Whether you have them in a garage, fridge or freezer, you want to leave them in that same place until you are ready to use them. Once you are ready to grow, take your seeds out and let them acclimatize to room temperature. Taking your seeds in and out of the refrigerator for instance, will cause temperature oscillations that can damage the seeds. Of course, we do not want you to damage you seeds. Instead harvest nice big buds from your Canadian cannabis seeds.

Light

Light is another danger to the storage of your seeds. Like humidity, light can cause germination. Exposing your seeds to as minimal light as possible, will help to maintain optimal sprouting and seed duration. Thanks for visiting the Seed Pharm today, the best place to buy marijuana seeds online.

Why Do Growers Dry & Cure Buds After Harvest?

Here’s what drying and curing Canadian seeds cannabis properly does for you…

Breaks down chlorophyll and dramatically improves taste / smoothness of buds

Gets rid of the unpleasant “fresh hay” or “cut grass” smell which is common on newly harvested buds

Brings out the subtle flavors and unique smell of your Canadian seeds cannabis strain

Reduces “harshness” in buds; you’re less likely to start coughing or get a headache

Buds are less likely to cause anxiety, racing thoughts, or paranoia

Reduces the chance of mold or bacteria growing on your buds

Curing seems to actually increase potency! Read on to learn more…

In most cases, a proper cure will change the subjective effects of buds. There is something that happens during a slow curing process which changes the exact composition of cannabinoids and terpenoids. This changes how the buds of your Canadian marijuana seeds make you feel.

Try smoking buds directly off the Canadian marijuana seeds plant vs smoking those same buds after they’ve been dried/cured. The best way to understand the difference is to try it for yourself! 😉

Many growers feel that drying buds slowly and proper curing will actually make buds feel more potent up to a point. Growers also report that properly cured Canada seeds cannabis are much more pleasant to smoke, vaporize, or turn into edibles. This is likely due to how cannabinoids and terpenoids are altered during the curing process.

How to Grow Marijuana

Here is an easy to follow 9 step guide on how to grow marijuana.

1. Let the seeds soak in water that is 65°F (18°C)  until they split open and roots appear
When seeds achieve a nice moistness level, they will enlarge and split open. A single root will grow downward with gravity out of that split. The root will always grow down no matter what and the stem will always grow up.

Soak marijuana seeds in water

Soak your cannabis seeds in water

Placing your seeds in water ensures that they have achieved the proper moisture level for the process of germination to begin. The seeds will not take on excess water and drown until about 2 weeks after they have cracked open. You will have already transplanted them into soil by then.

When you fill your glass with water, simply put it in the living room so that it shifts to the temperature of the environment. Tap water is fine, but don’t give the seeds any extra nutrients because they already have everything they need. The seeds will crack open in between 2 and 7 days. Make sure to replenish the water in the glass every other day. Start transplanting when the roots reach  0.1 to 0.2 inches (3 to 5 mm) in length. Download my free marijuana grow guide to learn more about marijuana seeds at this link.

2. Place your seeds in a ½-inch hole in small pots with seedling soil.

The nutrient level of the seeds is already adequate, so you should use a soil with fewer nutrients to start. Soil made specifically for seedlings and clones that has low quantities of nutrients is ideal. Plants are very susceptible to nutrient burn at this stage if you give them too many nutrients.

Plant cannabis seeds in soil

Plant your seeds in soil

The pots should be filled halfway with the seedling soil. To make the half-inch hole, use your finger tip or a pen. Each seed should have its own pot. Since the roots will always grow down, you don’t have to worry how you place the seeds in the soil.

Place the seed in the hole, and cover it up with the soil. When you spray the soil with water, it will tamp down on its own. Avoid pressing the soil. The germination process will continue until the plant starts to surface within a week. The taproot will produce other root offshoots so that the system is strong.

3. Use a plant sprayer to moisten the soil
Water is responsible for both life and germination, making it the most vital component early on. It is extremely important that you give the plants plenty of water and keep the soil moistened.

Moisten the soil with plant sprayer

Moisten the soil with plant sprayer

Plants that don’t receive enough water will compensate by not growing to full capacity. This is largely to increase the plants’ chances of survival. Of course, too much water can cause the plants to lose out on valuable oxygen. Leaves will start to wither and the marijuana plant and growth medium will become more susceptible to diseases and bacteria.

The soil needs to stay adequately moist (not too dry and not over-soaked). The seedling won’t use much water, but a lot of the water evaporates fast. This is the major reason why seedlings should never go on a windowsill or near a heater. Spraying the plants 1 or 2 times throughout the day should be plenty.

4. Put pots 2 inches below CFL tube
Other than water, light is another vital component for the plant’s growth. Light and water help convert carbon dioxide into oxygen and glucose—necessary resources for plant growth. This is referred to as photosynthesis.

When plants don’t receive adequate light, they will form fewer side branches and will elongate abnormally. This stretching helps marijuana plants grow taller to grab enough light in nature. Plants that receive adequate light will grow wider (not taller) and produce a flurry of side branches with a ton of buds. Light should be kept on 24 hours per day and the room should have a consistent temperature of around 72° Fahrenheit.

The pots should be placed under a cool white CFL light at a distance of 2 inches. These tubes don’t create that much heat, they’re energy efficient, and they use the ideal light spectrum for seedlings. Seedlings require about 3 to 5 watts each. When the plants surface after 5 to 10 days, they will need all the light they can get to grow optimally.

5. Keep the environment optimized
Creating the ideal climate is also important for germinating the marijuana seeds under ideal conditions. CFL tubes don’t produce that much heat, but they will keep the soil warm. You can keep the distance between the plants and the bulbs to a minimum, but if the temperature exceeds 77° F, then you should move them farther apart or cool down the area.

Soil moisture is important to ensure that the seed disposes of the water. Avoid feeding the seeds until the initial leaves make it through the soil. This happens after about 5 to 8 days. Be patient and just check the moisture level of your soil without feeding any nutrients.

6. First signs of the seedlings
As soon as the seedlings pop their heads out of the soil, it’s vital to inspect the distance between the plant and the light. Adjust the lights if the temperature goes past 72° Fahrenheit or the leaves start receiving excessive light. The soil also needs to stay moist. The leaves on the plants can absorb water, so continue spraying them 2 times per day.

Again, this early stage in life makes the plants susceptible to damage from negative conditions. Don’t use a lot of nutrients and make sure the lights stay on 24 hours to produce a reliable climate. Avoid touching the plants and do not take away the seed skins from the leaves

The plants need to grow and develop sturdy root systems. Big green leaves are capable of absorbing ample light and converting it into energy. Healthy root systems allow plants to take in plenty of water and nutrients. The plant is just starting to form the base for the remainder of its life, so it’s important that they receive proper, diligent care.

7. First two internodes
When the initial internodes start to form, you can feed your plant with root-stimulating foliar nutrients. Start the plants off with a small dose as the developing roots can’t withstand higher concentrations just yet.

The plants will start to grow rapidly (about 0.5 inches per day). Inspect your plants each day for signs of nutrient surplus (e.g. burned leaf tips).

8. Transplant into bigger pots when roots grow out of the bottom
The roots will start to grow out of the bottom of your smaller pot at which point it’s time to transplant. The plant will become rootbound and stop growing if you do not transplant.

To recognize the roots, look for white tips poking out of the bottom. Check for the roots each day and start giving your plants grow stimulator, which is high in nitrogen. More about nutrients on this link.

9. Grow you plants outdoors or under MH/HPS lights
If everything went as planned, then you have strong, healthy plants that will eventually produce high yields. A good start in life means that the plants will be less susceptible to bacteria, diseasespests, and the effects of harsh weather extremes. Plants that are healthy can better absorb water and nutrients and will develop a faster metabolism for better yields. If you email me a photo of your seedlings, I will publish them on my site.

These plants can now grow outdoors and will thrive in a wind-free location that gets a lot of sun. The plants will also do better in a big container (15 gallons) on a stool. This keeps away any interference from animals like rabbits or snails.
